It's almost as good as using a Tablet and doesn't require WinXP. On my Mac, I use VoodooPad to take notes. It creates a personal wiki in a file, and you can scribble attached sketches with a click of a button. I haven't found a good free application to mark up PDFs yet. I think I might have to cave and purchase Adobe Acrobat 7 to get that functionality. I’ve started using a $100 wacom tablet to take notes.
